In a shopping mall, if you want to find a particular store, you could wander aimlessly or you could find a map. But maps are only useful if you know two things — where you are going, and where you are.
We know we want to follow Jesus and be where He is (that’s where we’re going) but first we need to take inventory of where we are. Jesus warns that the road ahead will not be easy — in fact it will cost us everything.
So before we begin, we need to get our bearings and prepare for the journey ahead.
